I’m Courtney, the filmmaker behind Courtney Rae Films. For more than a decade, I’ve documented weddings, families, and the quiet moments that exist between milestones. My approach centers on observation rather than performance — capturing movement, sound, and the small interactions that give a moment its life. I work across digital, Super 8 film, camcorder, and photography, often blending them into hybrid films that feel more like memories than productions.

Outside of my client work, I’m also documenting my own everyday life — a home full of children, noise, unfinished projects, and moments that rarely seem important while they’re happening. That instinct to hold onto the small things before they slip past unnoticed guides everything I create.

I’ve called New York City, Los Angeles, and Maui home, but that was a lifetime ago. I now live in Minneapolis, Minnesota with my husband and two sons, closer to my roots in North Dakota, where I grew up running barefoot on gravel roads with my three younger siblings.

Before filmmaking, I was a professional cook — and when I’m not behind the camera, you can usually find me back in the kitchen.
